Snow Lake Hike July 31, 2004
Today we went on a hike to Snow Lake near the Alpental Ski Area near the Snoqualmie Summit Area. This hike is 6 miles long, but if you decide to go to Gem Lake, it's approximately another 2.9 miles down to that lake. The hike to Snow Lake has both open and wooded areas. The most difficult portion of the hike on the way to Snow Lake is the last section of the hike that double backs a few times. Once you finish the double backs, you'll be at the top and on your way down to Snow Lake. You can choose to camp at Snow Lake and you can even swim in Snow Lake (which some people chose to do when we were there). We made an attempt to go to Gem Lake (the next lake), but decided against it after starting the hike and noticing that the hike would be a great descent....meaning we didn't want to have to hike back up. In fact, it's so far down to Gem Lake that you can't even see Gem Lake from the initial descent just after Snow Lake.
